Late goal decides it for Banbridge at Comber

Following a five goal defeat at home last week to Ballymoney North Down entertained Banbridge at Comber Leisure Centre last Saturday in the Vitality Premier League.

North Down started well with good attacks as well as soaking up pressure from the opposition. The team remained strong as the game settled and the score remained 0-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw a tough fight from both sides as North Down’s defence line of Bethan Crawford, Rachel Mornin, Kerry Watts, Alex Boyd, Caitlin Taylor and Heather Brittain were tested as Banbridge fought for a goal. The second quarter saw Banbridge have an attempt to score resulting in excellent work from North Down keeper Kathryn McGregor who kept Banbridge at bay with the score remaining at 0-0 at the end of the half.

North Down strongly dominated the third quarter with strong play from Olivia Brown, Selina Lewis, Lauren Brown, Betty Burrows and Rachel Lucas who slotted balls for the forwards in the circle. Rachel Murphy took advantage of this and narrowly missed a goal. The midfield continued to work down the lines slipping a ball to Sophie Hoey who passed to Lewis who won a penalty corner but the score remained 0-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the final quarter Banbridge made some good counter attacks putting North Down’s defence under pressure. On one of these attacks the visitors scored making the score 1-0. North Down continued to make attacks but unfortunately it wasn’t to be and on the final whistle it ended in a 1-0 loss.
