McCrory, Murray goals secure win over Dromore thirds

On Saturday North Down ladies thirds entertained their Dromore counterparts at Comber Leisure Centre. After a 1-1 drawn first game of the season in Dromore, the home team were determined to get a win.

Dromore started off the game strongly putting great pressure on the North Down defense. Goalkeeper Nikki Ferris kept the team on their toes and cleared the visiting team’s attacks. North Down had a few breaks of play away from their defending circle with great one two passing between the midfields and the forwards.  Left wing Kenzi Fisher took the ball down the side line and along the backline where Kirsty McCrory got the first goal of the game. Heading towards half time there was even play between both teams.

After half time North Down fought to keep the lead and applied great pressure to the Dromore defence throughout the majority of the second half.  Several penalty corners were won and after a few attempts right wing Laura Murray got the second goal of the game. The final quarter saw Dromore up their game and try to get onto the scoreboard. The home team’s defence broke down the play until the last few seconds of the game when Dromore were awarded a penalty corner. As the final whistle blew the home team had won the game but wanted to keep a clean sheet. Dromore took the penalty corner but sweeper Kathryn Rogers stopped with the back of her stick lending Dromore another chance at the goal but Nikki Ferris cleared the straight shot.

A fantastic game and a great effort by the girls.
