Seconds mini run abruptly halted!
After winning their last three games North Down seconds were brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday courtesy of a 5-1 drubbing by Annadale 2nds at Campbell College.
The first quarter was a very even affair with North Down taking the game to a much strengthened Annadale side that benefitted from their first eleven having no match at the weekend. Unfortunately North Down could not make the most of their chances and the quarter ended 0-0.
The second quarter started in the same fashion and it was looking like the scoreline would remain 0-0 at the half time break until North Down served up some of their worst hockey since the Bangor debacle earlier in the season. Annadale scored three goals in the last 5 minutes of the quarter, all of which were very much preventable, and Annadale surely could not believe their luck at leading the contest 3-0 at half time.
The seconds never recovered from going 3-0 down and despite their best efforts the score remained 3-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Going into the final quarter North Down pushed more men forward but unluckily conceded another goal from an Annadale crash ball into the North Down circle where the Dale player got in front of his man and deflected the ball past Reece Glover in goal. North Down eventually got on the scoresheet with Andy McKee scoring his first goal for the club with a cool finish from the top of the circle. That was as good as it got for North Down as Annadale added their fifth by converting a drag flicked short corner and only several superb saves from Reece Glover in the final minutes kept Annadale’s tally to five.
