Hilary’s goal secures the three points!
On Saturday North Down ladies fourths welcomed their Co. Londonderry visitors Priorians seconds to Comber Leisure Centre keen to avenge a 1-0 defeat earlier in the season.
True to form, it was a close run affair. During the first half Priorians showed their strength by controlling the midfield and pressurising the home defence but they were thwarted by great defensive play from Kathy Taylor and Keri Portinga. Against the run of play, Karen Jackson made a beautiful pass to Lynsey Scott on the right who worked the ball over to Hilary West in the centre. Hilary, keeping her cool, skilfully dodged the ball around the visitor’s keeper into the back of the net leaving the home team in front at half time.
North Down resumed the second half determined to keep their lead. Kathy Taylor continued to place perfect balls to both Lynsey Scott and Sara Moreland who both made several speedy runs down the right crossing the ball into the circle but to no avail. Eve Porter and Abby McCague dug deep forcing the ball towards the forward line and winger Kirsty McCrory foiled the Priorians game plan with great tackling back. The home defence stood strong during a series of Priorians short corners preventing them from equalising with keeper Helena Press in strong form and Anna Rogers keeping tight on the dangerous Priorians winger.
The rearguard action paid off as North Down held on to the end to secure a well deserved three points.
PMB Player of the Match: Lynsey Scott.
