JR saves the day
The ladies seconds travelled the short distance over to Strathearn last Saturday to play CIYMS 2nds who sit third in the league.
North Down started the match with good possession playing the ball around the pitch with ease. CI used their full bench to good effect interchanging forwards to put pressure onto the visitors. North Down had Julie Fisher working hard up front to gain short corners but were unfortunate to not convert these chances. CI had little chances at the other end as their efforts were ably dealt with by backs Rachel Cairns, Anna Crooks and Nadia Bell and half time arrived with the contest still scoreless.
The visitors started the second half on the back foot with the no subs left due to injuries. CI took advantage of the tiring legs and ran the ball to the back line to gain their first short corner of the match. With a slip to the left and a surging shot finding the bottom corner goalkeeper Helena Press had no chance for a save. This spurred the tiring legs of the visitors and up front Caitlin Taylor and Julie Fisher worked well together gaining a plethora of short corners when finally the break through happened. A well shot strike from Anna Crooks with a great save from the home side keeper sent the rebound to Julie Fisher who made no mistake in finding the net. Both teams went in search for the winner with end to end action but there was no further scoring and the game finished at 1-1.
