Ladies fourths exit Junior Cup
North Down ladies fourths travelled to Coleraine seconds last Saturday for a first round game in the Junior Cup. In the opening minutes it was end to end stuff and Coleraine scored after 7 minutes but North Down soon counter-attacked and good midfield play from Karen Jackson, Jo Irwin and Lauren Spence produced a through pass into the circle for Kirsty McCrory, a welcome return from injury, to score. The rotating defence of Brittain, Nield, Rogers and McBride plus super quick reaction saves from Linda Marshall in goals kept the score to 1 – 1 at half time.
The second half started in similar vein to the first with end to end play. Forwards Lynsey Stevenson, Kirsten McBride and Kirsty McCrory tried to penetrate the Coleraine defence and the Coleraine keeper had to make some good saves. Eventually the superior fitness of Coleraine told as the visitors tired and they scored the winner on 55 minutes to make the final score 2 – 1.
