Ladies seconds secure Junior Two title

On Saturday the Ladies seconds welcomed Victorians 2nds to Comber Leisure Centre in the hope of a win to secure the Junior 2 league title and promotion to Junior 1 for next season. With players missing due to injuries and unavailable the ladies knew it would be a tough task.

North Down started the brighter of the two teams with great team play pressuring Victorians right from the start, creating early chances. Great work from Emma McAllister on the left earned the home side the first penalty corner of the game which Jenna Hoey converted from a straight strike. The Comber girls advantage seem to give more confidence as they pressed forward with good attacking play between Brittany Hogan and Sacha Bell who earned another short corner in which Emily Adams stepped up with a shot just going wide of the post but Karen Moore was on hand with quick reactions to give the North Down ladies a 2-0 advantage going into half time.

Victorians started the second half a lot stronger and started putting more pressure on the defence but with Rebecca Brown and Keri Portinga keeping the two wingers under control they rarely made the circle. Good work by Laura Murray and Sophie Clements kept Victorians on their toes producing chances that the home side were unlucky not to convert. Victorians were however quick on the break but between sweeper Laura Campbell and keeper Chrissie McKee the Comber girls managed to keep a clean sheet. Finally the full time whistle came making the girls league winners for the 2nd year in a row.
