Thirds clinch Junior League Three in play off
The mens thirds finally finished their league season with a narrow Junior League Three play off victory over close rivals Civil Service seconds at Deramore Park on Saturday. It was a feisty encounter with players from both sides rested on occasions with a variety of green and yellow cards.
Civil Service went into the lead with only 4 minutes on the clock but after both teams had come close to adding to the scoreline Stephen Forrest brought the teams level on 19 minutes. The thirds has a succession of short corners and disappointed the Comber supporters by not capitalising on any of them.
North Down had slightly the better of the second half but with missed chances from Forrest, Walls and Pyper the tie looked certain for extra time until in the 68th minute Scott Moore rounded off a fine passing movement to notch the winner. The goal was the cue for all round celebrations and when the whistle blew shortly afterwards it was time for the hugely expensive bottles of bubbly to be produced.
The thirds will probably join the seconds in Junior Two next season but as details of next seasons league structures have still not been revealed – WHO KNOWS?
