Ladies seconds stay top
Last Saturday North Down ladies seconds hosted Harlequins fourths at Comber Leisure Centre attempting to remain undefeated in the league.
North Down started strongly and scored after only 28 seconds of play with Ali Millar taking a quick free from the top of the circle. Two minutes later, Naomi Mitchell made the score 2-0 to North Down with Laura Campbell passing into the circle and Naomi catching the deflection and beating the keeper. With only 15 minutes gone Amy Jones scored from a cross into the circle by Natalie Strain to make it 3-0. The girls remained strong at the back with Walker keeping the North Down circle clear from Harlequins attackers and the strong North Down side finished the first half well in control.
Harlequins came back in the second half determined but the North Down girls remained in control of the game with sharp passing and communication in midfield. Amy Jones scored her second goal of the game taking on and beating the keeper. After 10 minutes of the second half North Down’s play dropped and they allowed Harlequins back into the game with a good goal. This setback steadied the home team and they stepped up their play once again and won three short corners in the last five minutes of the game with Ali Millar scoring from the third with a straight strike straight past the goalkeeper, leaving the North Down girls to win 5-1 and maintain their unbeaten league record.
