Seconds go nap at Elks

Last Friday evening North Down seconds travelled to play Ulster Elks 3rds in a top of the table clash.

North Down had pass back and in the second minute Ali Millar started a move which led to Julie Fisher scoring at the second attempt past the Elks keeper. Three minutes later North Down went 2-0 up when Millar received the ball on the penalty spot and again a goal was scored at the second attempt. Midway through the half a quick free found Olivia Brown whose deft deflection beat the keeper for a third goal and just on half time a quick flick from Claire Macquarrie left the Elks keeper helpless allowing the Comber girls to go into half time 4-0 up.

Elks came into the second half determined to get something from the game with a few quick breaks but were unable to link passes together with a strong show from the North Down defence. Keri Portinga, Karen Moore, Emma Gowdy controlled the centre of the pitch and with Walker picking up all the loose balls in defence there was little play in the North Down circle. The Elks won a number of short corners however North Down were quick off their lines and Natasha Morton on top form in nets kept a clean sheet. North Down finally broke through the Elks defence for Ali Millar to get her second goal of the match just two minutes before the final whistle. The 5-0 win keeps the seconds unbeaten in their league campaign.
