Ladies Thirds Scoreless At Ballymoney

By Kathryn Rogers

On Saturday the ladies 3rd xi travelled to play Ballymoney 3rds for their second match of the season. After losing 6-0 to Grosvenor 3rds last week North Down were determined to stay strong. Throughout the first half play was better even on both sides. Ballymoneys’ attack was very strong but it was easily read by centre back Rebecca Walker. North Down’s mid worked very well together with excellent calling and passing between Judith Orr and Rachel Murray. Towards the end of the first half left wing Ashleigh McLaughlin and left mid Beth Murray worked extremely well together and tried very hard to win in the circle but no result was made. Half time came and both sides were even.

At the start of the second half Ballymoney were determined to get a head start and try to gain the first goal. With a solid effort from the North Down defence many penatly corners were saved and cleared due to goalkeeper Natasha Morton, who had a great game. North Down held it together until the very end with great marking and taclking from Karen Jackson, Beverly Brittain and Rebecca Walker. The ladies 3s had an excellent game and were very happy to leave Ballymoney with one point.

Special thanks to Ballymoney for supplying two umpires.
