Boys U13s Impress at Finals Day
By Ross Linter
The Boys Under 13’s participated in a finals competition at Campbell College on St Patrick’s day. A total of twenty teams from across the province participated. The tournament format consisted of a group stage, from which successful teams would progress to a knock out phase.
Despite an initial draw against Mossley, the boys soon found their stride and sailed through their group recording a 6-0 victory over local rivals Civil Service, followed by a convincing display against Cliftonville. The team’s efforts meant they had qualified for the quarter finals and had been drawn to play Annadale. The boys rose to the occasion and produced their best display of the day with a hard fought one nil win to progress to the semi finals. A talented Instonian’s side represented the next challenge and despite a battling mentality, the side fell to a one nil defeat.
Reaching the semi finals was a very pleasing achievement for the team which has grown from strength to strength as the season has progressed. Thanks to all the parents who turned out to show their support on the day, despite the weather conditions.
Player of the tournament was Aaron Grimshaw
