Ladies 2nd XI Lose Out To Carrick Seconds

By Laura Campbell

On Saturday the ladies 2nds travelled to play Carrick 2nds with Carrick kindly having to supply two umpires for the match. This being the third encounter between the two teams with one win each the Comber girls knew this would be a challenging match.

With a re-shuffle in defence and a new combination of forwards up front it took a while for the team to gain some structure. Carrick took full advantage piling the pressure on however Hannah Bates pulled out some fantastic saves in the North Down goals to keep her team in the game. However Carrick taught a lesson on marking when a Carrick player found herself at the top of circle on her own and put North Down 1-0 down just before half time.

With plenty of positive talk at half time the seconds quickly set off in attacking mode with some great play down the right channel from Judith Orr, Jenna Hoey and Nastasha Adamson. They seemed a different team within defence with Rebecca Walker as sweeper making some brilliant tackles with Karen Jackson supplying the passes wide to left back Rebecca Brown to begin some good linking play. Ali Millar and Charlotte McKee worked tirelessly in the centre trying to create some chances however Carrick caught a counter attack and made it 2-0. This fired up the fight back for the Comber girls with Laura Campbell supplying surging passes into the circle and Rachel Lucas being very unlucky not to get the final touch. Although the second half performance was strong and dominating from the North Down team they weren’t able to trouble the scorers and the game ended in a 2-0 loss.

Players of the match were Hannah Bates and Rebecca Walker for their strong performance in defence
