Mens thirds wind up season

The final action of the season was at Antrim Forum on Saturday where the mens thirds were required to play the remaining 29 minutes of their game against Antrim 2nds abandoned on 1 February due to flooding of the pitch.  The score at the time was 4-1 in favour of Antrim so there was a substantial mountain to climb in 29 minutes.

The thirds had the brightest of starts with two goals from short corners in the first 6 minutes scored by Paul Revill and Scotty Moore.  Scotty then scored again on 17 minutes to bring the scores level but Antrim pulled ahead again with a goal deflected off Paul Beaney’s stick.  There couldn’t be more goals could there?  Answer – yes, as Andy Shannon poached another equalizer from close in with 7 minutes left.  Under pressure, the thirds held out for a final score of 5-5 which gave them the point to guarantee their place in the reformed Junior Three next season.
