North Down into IHT quarter finals

North Down progressed to the quarter finals of the Irish Trophy with a comfortable 3-1 victory against South Antrim at Comber on Saturday.

The game was played at a slow pace with neither team able to inject any pace or purpose to the play.  North Down controlled the game throughout but were unable to convert their pressure into goals.  Andy Forrest opened the scoring when he shot home a short corner after 15 minutes and it seemed only a matter of time before more goals would follow.  However North Down lacked penetration in the final third and South Antrim held out to half time.

Early in the second period Forrest got his second to ease North Down further ahead.  In one of their rare attacks the visitors won a short corner and their attempt was smashed home by Glass.  For a short period North Down’s play became scrappy and South Antrim gathered momentum.  However a Chris Speers’ corner with ten minutes remaining secured victory for the home side who now await the draw for the quarter finals.
