Under 15s beat Bangor

The boys Under 15s played a T2 league match at home to Bangor on Sunday at Regent House. It was a clear day with a steady cold breeze blowing off Strangford Lough at Regent but it didn’t stay that way as within the first few minutes the temperature was rising between the two teams of young men.

The North Down defence of Oliver, Matthew, Daniel and Rory on the wing managed to keep their composure and played calmly soaking up any pressure from the Seasiders. With Ben urging on the guys they had the majority of the possession and play, numerous chances in the first half were saved by the Bangor keeper. One parent asked if we were ever going to score but it was always coming and Finn pushed home the ball from 2 yards after a poor clearance from the Bangor defence to make it 1-0 at half time.

The second half continued the theme and Callum, Thomas and Scott carried on the physical, verbal and mental onslaught. Some great recycling play along the back saw more chances and one through ball fell to Callum who thundered the ball into the back of the net to go further ahead at 2-0.  North Down did have the ball in the net for a third time but it was disallowed. The scoreline and physical nature of the game began to take its toll on the Bangor men and things got a bit unruly in the last 10 minutes with a couple of rash tackles by them. However they were unable to get past the home defence.

Well done to our guys for a great match! Thanks again to the parents for their support – it is much appreciated.  There are still more matches – league games with Bangor and Banbridge and Mossley in the cup.
