Ladies fifths roughed up at Roughfort

On Saturday North Down ladies fifths travelled to Roughfort for a return fixture with Owls thirds looking to improve on a 2-1 defeat at the start of the season.

The match commenced with Owls attacking strongly and North Down paid for the error of stopping play waiting for a whistle which didn’t come to go 1-0 down. The match continued with Ruby Donaldson at right back this week making great tackles and Ann McBride as centre back was her usual steady self. Jill Jack at left back was superb, keeping the very nippy Owls players attacking down the right at bay.

Emma Moreland bravely played into the second half with an injured finger and Charlotte Walker who made her presence felt on the pitch had a great game.  North Down capitalised on their chances when left mid Erin McConnell found Rebecca McBride who dodged round three players and lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to score a brilliant goal and bring North Down level.

In the last quarter the match deteriorated with many of the Owls players resorting to pushing players off the ball, stick tackles and shouting abuse. Amy Powell in goals made at least ten great saves in four minutes, but eventually the Owls pressure paid off and they managed to score two goals in quick succession to make the final score 3-1.

Burch Autos Player of the Match was Amy Powell
