Just a point for ladies against CI

North Down ladies hosted neighbours CIYMS at Comber Leisure Centre on Saturday in a Senior League game after a short break due to the previous weeks match being postponed.

The girls knew this was a must win match and they started on the front foot with good pressure on CIs defence which presented itself with a short corner for North Down. Unfortunately the straight strike was just edged wide off a CI stick and nothing came of it. North Down eased off the pressure and let CI back into the game with two goals in quick succession, one from a corner and another from open play. The rest of the first half North Down showed some periods of excellent play where the midfield linked well with the forwards driving at CIS defence. A period of pressure around the goal mouth resulted in a goal for North Down’s Amy Kimber. North Down continued this spell of sterling work and after good skill in midfield from Selina Lewis who found Lauren Brown in the middle of the park. Brown played a well timed pass into the circle for forward, Rachel Lucas to slot it into the net to make it 2-2 at halftime.

The second half was a game of end to end hockey but with nothing really coming off at either end. CI continued to apply pressure on the home team which, complemented by a number of mistakes from North Down, led to a some one on ones with goal keeper Nikki Ferris. These were calmly dealt with by Nikki helped by Selina Lewis and Rachel Mornin coming to her aid. Whilst North Down had a limited  few chances at the opposition’s net in the second half there was no further scoring with the final score remaining at 2-2. The girls were disappointed at only taking away one point but will take a positive outlook into their next match away to Coleraine this Saturday
