Ashleigh nets four for fifths

North Down Ladies’ 5ths travelled to Bangor Grammar to play Donaghadee 2nds in the Minor Plate. Missing Stevenson and West they still managed to take a squad of 13 players.
Due to North Down knowing a few of the Donaghadee players, there had been a lot of ‘banter’ in the build up to the match, a great amount of meringues were involved in the winner takes all philosophy!!
North Down attacked strongly with Rachel B, Marion and Georgie up front and managed to score within the first ten minutes. Two more excellent goals quickly followed with Ashley scoring both of them

Three nil up at half time North Down started the second half attacking again with excellent midfield play between JR, Kathy and Rachel B (JR was certainly firing on all cylinders this week AND PASSING!!!) Another goal from Ashley and then one that nearly broke the backboards from Marion meant that the defence thought that they could relax, however Donaghadee never gave up and continued to press but super defending from Annas D and R, Emma, Rachel Q, Natasha, Bev and KB (the cavalry arriving for the second half!) meant that Dee eventually scored a goal from numerous penalty corners. So final score 5 1. An excellent team performance from everyone!

PMB Player of the match – scorer of 4 goals Ashley Hamilton.

Extra extra thanks to Joanne Irwin who had dragged herself from her sick bed to umpire.

Report from Beverley Brittain.
