Good win for ladies seconds on the road

The ladies seconds made the trip to Raphoe on Saturday hoping to continue their winning streak in the league. Linda Marshall was a late addition to the team as keeper.

The visitors got off to a positive start with plenty of beautiful linking passes through the midfield of Judith Orr, Kate McConnell, and Connie Magee. They had many chances and short corners but all were saved excellently by the Raphoe keeper.

Into the second quarter, the scoreboard remained clean but with more short corners and continuous shots on target from forwards Tilly Nield, Jenna Pliauga and Megan Murray. Unfortunately, the Comber side could not get the ball past the Raphoe keeper who seemed to be having her game of the season.

Into the second half, North Down knew that they had to keep up their great play in order to take home the important 3 points. However, they gave away a short corner at the beginning of the half, which led to an excellent shot from Raphoe putting them 1-0 up going into the final quarter.

North Down lifted the pace in the final quarter with great tackles from defenders Ali Campbell and Karen Moore, breaking down Raphoe’s attempts at a turnover. The visitor’s tireless efforts in attack were finally rewarded when a training ground move paid off and Megan Murray drove along the byline before pulling the ball back to Connie Magee at the top of the circle who equalised at 1-1. With spirits raised they were not ready to cop another goal to avoid a somber journey home!

Passes between Angelique Toombs and Caitlyn Adair led to Adair fabulously forcing the ball into Raphoe’s circle and winning another corner. Injector Ali Campbell received the ball back from Jenna Pliauga at the top of the circle and put it beyond reach of the Raphoe keeper, finally giving North Down the lead! The visitors kept their calm and continued their attacking play right until the final whistle, leaving Raphoe with a glorious 2-1 WIN!!
