Last week while watching the chocolate fondue that is our first team (you know, things dipped in chocolate with sticks) we feared for this week.Gareth Mckeown<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>looking like C-3PO after a Sand People attack,\u00a0<\/span>Steven McGimpsey<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>stretching his groin,\u00a0<\/span>Michael Black<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>prodding his hammy whileStephen Dalzell<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>perused next week\u2019s work rota. Injuries\/AWOL-ness above mean raids below. Back room simulations suggested that this week would be the hockey equivalent of taking a French-tickler\u00a0<\/span>to a thermonuclear war, for that is the nature of hockey at Stormont, home of North Down\u2019s local nemesis NICS.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We needn\u2019t have worried \u2013 Black recovered enough to drag his sorry Snoop-Dog carcass to the bench, we all know about McGimpsey\u2019s Wolverine like powers of regeneration (remember last season\u2019s hamstring incident?) and while Chewie is still working on McKeown and Dalzell had to punch-in, luckily draft-dodging birthday boy\u00a0<\/span>Kai Jenkins<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>was available to return to the mother-ship.<\/span><\/p>\n

So how\u2019d it go then? 2-0 up! That\u2019s good. 3-2 down! That\u2019s pants! 4-3 up! Hey, that\u2019s good again! 4-4, 5 minutes to go! We\u2019re a bit sad. But hey, NICS! We\u2019re North Down and we\u2019re going to score one more that you*! 5-4 win courtesy of The Buddha \u2013 Christmas might still be ruined!**<\/span><\/p>\n

Yee haw and all that.<\/span><\/p>\n

Andrew Boyd<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>made his first foray into real estate picking up a couple of \u201cache\u201ders (geddit?) in the first half that limited his participation in the second. Luckily there was plenty of room on the bench thanks to the unexpected absence of local bromancing cat-fancier Mr.\u00a0<\/span>Adam Tate<\/span><\/a>. Don\u2019t worry Tatey we\u2019re keeping you seat warm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aerial-throwing-recently-hitched-drag-flicking-centre-back-a-bit-like-a-desktop-Mockey\u00a0<\/span>Keith Conway<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>makes his debut! Good range and nice goal Keefie. Quakers are definitely on the menu in the Conway household!<\/span><\/p>\n

Josh Gilmore<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>– last year\u2019s life size mannequin is this year\u2019s dynamic man of action. Off the ball running, passing and goal scoring (twice!) \u2013 well played Josh.<\/span><\/p>\n

A big thanks to\u00a0<\/span>Stuart Nicholson<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Sam Brown<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>for hot-footing it across from Comber to help out \u2013 sneaky boys, hedging cup-final bets with their feet in two camps.<\/span><\/p>\n

And last, but in no way ever least,\u00a0<\/span>Jim Patterson<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>for manning the whistle and saving us from having to pull\u00a0<\/span>Laura Clarke<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from the playing roster. Objectivity scaled back to suit the situation but not enough to let crimes from his opposite number go un-equalised. No deaths or hospitalizations either despite the presence of the fearsome Wurzel. Perfect. Can you do it next week Jim? We\u2019re at home, time TBC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next week, we avenge our Chocolate Overlords and put the Harlequins powder-puffs second string to the sword. You will be entertained! That is why you will be there!<\/span><\/p>\n
