North Down ladies 1st XI were disappointed with a 1-0 defeat against the local rivals Bangor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Down started well with strong attacks from Connie Magee, Sophie Hoey, Sarah Taylor and Hannah Macrory but a strong counterattack early in the first quarter resulted in a penalty corner and the straight strike found the backboard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The North Down girls fought back hard and mostly controlled the remaining three quarters with strong attacks from Caitlin Taylor, Emily Johnston and Sophie Leckie. With good attacking hockey and several penalty corners North Down fought hard to find the equaliser but despite a number of good strikes from Anna Crooks and Caitlin Taylor they were denied by an on form Bangor keeper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tireless work from the North Down defence including great clearances at times from the talented Kathryn Gray thwarted any attacks from the Bangor forwards with excellent defensive work from Heather Shannon, Hollie Scott, Anna Crooks and Nadia Bell throughout the match. There are plenty of positives to take from the first league game of the year and despite the disappointment of losing, the skill and effort displayed by Sophie Stewart, Scarlett Simpson, and Regan Armstrong did not go unnoticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The girls should all be commended for their discipline and positive attitude, their heads never dropped and they fought hard to the final moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
