The first quarter was a balanced affair. Goalkeeper Rodgers reacted quickly to clear a dangerous overhead ball, while Blair and McKane forced a fine save from the Kilkeel keeper. At the other end, Kilkeel fired over after a quick break. North Down created chances too, with McKane making a brilliant run before crossing to McKeown, whose shot was blocked. The match turned in the 50th minute when a defensive error gifted Kilkeel a simple goal to take the lead. North Down pushed hard for an equaliser. Linter crossed to Bailie, who failed to control the ball, missing a key opportunity. McKane, North Down\u2019s most dangerous forward, made an excellent run into the circle but saw his reverse shot sail over the bar. Bailie then broke through but shot high again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As North Down pressed, Kilkeel capitalised on the counterattack. Their speedy forward, Finlay, doubled the lead, leaving North Down chasing the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the final quarter, North Down\u2019s desperation for goals left them vulnerable at the back. Finlay struck twice more, punishing defensive lapses, leaving Rodgers with no chance. A late mistake by Tweedie, who otherwise had an excellent game, led to Kilkeel\u2019s fifth goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Down didn\u2019t give up. McKeown forced a save, and Fraser won a penalty corner, which he converted for a consolation goal. The final whistle blew at 5-1, a scoreline that didn\u2019t reflect the close contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
North Down\u2019s efforts were hampered when Gilmore and Boyd couldn\u2019t continue due to injuries, and Phil Templeton had to play on despite carrying a knock because substitutes were limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
