North Secures Victory in Ballymoney
In an exhilarating away match, North Down 2s secured a hard-fought victory against Ballymoney, triumphing 2-1. The match was a showcase of skill, determination, and teamwork, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.
From the outset, both teams demonstrated their intent, with Ballymoney pressing high from early on.
The breakthrough came early in the second quarter when Ali Campbell picked up a beautifully recycled long ball from across the pitch. An indecisive Money defence opened up to provide a channel for Ali to drive into, and to slide a perfectly weighted pass through to Faye McCann, who confidently slotted the ball home to give North Down a 1-0 lead.
The goal encouraged the team, and they began to assert control over the midfield, creating several opportunities to extend their lead.
It didn’t take long for North’s efforts to pay off and just before halftime swift counter-attack between Andrea Mockford and Connie Magee culminated in a rebound off the keepers pads that Emily Johnston deftly maneuvered past the keeper into the corner of the net.
The third quarter saw North Down continue to dominate with several corners won and a penalty corner shot from Laura Murray hitting the post. But the Ballymoney side were skilled and quick on the break and after a brief spell of pressure they managed to scored a breakaway goal which shifted the games momentum slightly.
As the match progressed into the last quarter Ballymoney intensified their efforts to equalize, but North Down’s defense remained resolute, with Amy Powell and the defence making a few crucial saves to keep the lead intact.
The final whistle blew, confirming a hard-earned 2-1 victory.
This win not only boosts morale but also sets a positive tone for the upcoming fixtures. The team’s cohesion and determination were evident.
