Garvey hand the thirds a lesson

The mens thirds lost 5-1 to Garvey fourths on Friday night at Londonderry Park.

North Down controlled the first quarter but went one down against the run of play. Missing chances frustrated the home side and when Jonny Moore left the field injured, the pace upfront was diminished. Determined to get back into the game, the thirds tightened up slack marking and almost equalised when Paul Adgey fired a cross in front of goal but Sam Pyper couldnt get a meaningful touch when he looked sure to score.

Captain Pyper would soon make amends when Bryn Walker got on the end of a loose ball and found himself one on one with the advancing keeper. Walker hedged his bets, turned with his back to keeper and reverse scooped the ball square to the advancing forward who struck home on the half volley to make it 1-1 in the third quarter.

Back in the game? Nope! North Down went backwards and loose marking allowed Garvey to go one up minutes later. Sucker punched, heads went down and further injury resulted in Garvey marching on to score a further three to make it 5-1 in the last quarter.

The 3s will have to tighten up the marking to get results in this league.
