Ladies fifths concentrate on the Plate

North Down ladies fifths hosted Queens fifths in the first round of the Minor Cup at Regent House on Saturday.

The game commenced at a blistering pace with the Queens team on the front foot and they managed to slot in two goals before the end of the first quarter. North Down decided to change their formation with Laura McCallum then moving from centre forward to become an extra defender but Queens still managed to get another goal in the second quarter despite some amazing saves by goalkeeper Amy.

Into the second half and North Down finally won a corner but Rebecca McBride narrowly missed scoring. That was the only corner North Down had compared to Queens double figures of corners and excellent defending by North Down meant that Queens did not score again.  The final score was 3-0 to a young Queens team which was respectable given their much higher league position.  North Down will now aim to progress in the Minor Plate!

Burch Autos Player of the Match was Beverley Brittain
