Tough for mens seconds V Cookstown

North Down seconds have been firmly established in the top junior Ulster hockey league now for six seasons but it never gets any easier as evidenced last Saturday when they hosted a top notch Cookstown second eleven at Comber Leisure Centre in which proved to be an entertaining game.

Both teams started in attacking form and chances were shared quickly.  Cookstown opened the scoring after a good save from Sam Martin with the rebound landing at a Cookstown player to score.  North Down continued to press for an equaliser and matched Cookstown blow for blow.

With a free flowing game Cookstown proved to be more clinical and went in at half time 2-0 up.  A half time talk which centered around hitting the target inspired Josh Gilmore to open the account for the home team in the third quarter.

Cookstown continued to be clinical in front of goal and eventually went 4-1 up.  In the closing quarter North Down continued to press and create numerous chances but the lack of any positive result means that more shooting practice at training will be required.

Burch Autos Man of the Match was Robbie Sinclair.
