Derby defeat at Ards

A local derby is always interesting and last Saturday North Down ladies 5ths played Ards ladies 4ths away at Londonderry Park.

Unfortunately in the first two minutes the North Down captain Maxine Taylor was on the receiving end of an Ards stick right across her cheek and fell to the ground in front of the goal.  However play was allowed to continue and Ards scored, rather unsettling for the visitors as Taylor had to leave the pitch for treatment.

North Down tried to re-group, but constant pressure from the Ards forwards resulted in two more goals for the home team.  Thankfully Taylor was able to return eventually to the pitch and deservedly became player of the match with fearless tackles unhindered by a badly swollen face.  It was a bitter pill to swallow, but Ards definitely deserved to win with the final score finishing 3-0 to the home team.

Positive things can be taken from the match as the fifths have been playing so well in the last few weeks, but having their game cancelled last week at Dromore definitely upset their rhythm so they will have to re-group and get back to winning ways.
