Vital points for fourths in Banbridge

North Down fourths travelled to their Banbridge counterparts last Saturday badly needing to take points from their bottom of the table hosts.

Despite arriving late the fourths started out strongly, launched out of the cannon head first and scored early on with a well executed short corner finish from Andrew Haire hard and fast into the bottom corner. The reply came hot and heavy from Banbridge who scored from a short corner also much to the dismay of Reece Glover in goals. The fourths kept up the pressure with a series of short corners one of which lead to a penalty stroke! However, Greg Bell missed but, 5 minutes after missing his glory chance, he scored to bring North Down ahead once more at the half time whistle.

The third quarter ran on and on as the fourths put in a hard shift, with honorable mentions to Scott Irwin, Andrew Welsh and Robin McMullan all holding their own. Coming towards to the end of the third quarter and Andrew Haire took fate into his own hands running in hard and hitting the ball as hard as humanly possible into the bottom corner of the net. For the final quarter North Down battened down the hatches and parked the bus for 17 long minutes with the final whistle sealing a victory after a long string of defeats.
