Second half fight back secures a derby win for North Down
North Down made the short journey to play local rivals Bangor at the Aurora Centre last Saturday in the Premier League hoping to make amends for their disappointing previous week’s loss at Newry
Playing conditions were challenging and both teams took time to settle into their rhythm. It was Bangor who struck first in the opening quarter from a short corner despite North Down enjoying the majority of the possession.
The away side remained patient and with more clinical finishing could have scored a handful before half time with the far post coming to Bangor’s rescue on more than one occasion. Nonetheless it remained 1-0 for the home side at half time.
With having most of the play, the comeback was only a matter of time and it arrived in the third quarter when Gareth’s McKeown shot was helped into the net by a Bangor defender. Moments later North Down were ahead with a calmly taken penalty stroke from David Morris.
Bangor to their credit kept pressing to try and force an equaliser but North Down remained dominant and James Clark made sure of the spoils with a skilful near post finish.
Final score, a 3-1 derby win for North Down. The team host Queens next Saturday and hope to secure a run of points in the coming weeks ahead of the Christmas break.
Burch Autos Man of the Match was James Clark.
