Cup progress for seconds after mid game wobble!

North Down seconds entertained Mossley 2nds in the first round of the Irish Junior Cup at rain lashed Comber last Saturday and came from behind to progress to the next round.

North Down started the match strongly and played Mossley off the park with some brilliant pass and move hockey finishing the first quarter with a 1-0 lead courtesy of another Chris Speers drag flick!

In true seconds style they turned what should have gone on to be a routine victory into a challenge by conceding 3 goals and going 3-1 behind to a Mossley team that had been boosted by the introduction of some senior players who had turned up at half time.

However they managed to get their act together in time again with the returning Stephen Magee bagging North Down’s second goal of the game with a reverse stick finish. This got the Comber boys back into the game and they didn’t look back from this point onwards with Stephen Dalzell getting the equaliser and Harry McKeown putting the finishing touch to a flowing passing move to secure victory for the seconds and a passage into the next round.  It may be an all Ireland competition but the opposition in the next round is just down the road at Bangor seconds!

Birch Autos Man of the Match was Robbie Sinclair
